Blue Ridge Mountains Council - Lynchburg, VA

Welcome to our Homepage!

Troop 70 was chartered in January of 1996. It was formed by George Jones and is sponsored by Life Outreach.  The troop has grown over the years and there are now about twenty boys in the troop with over half of them either star or life. Our troop is made up of three patrols, the Eagle Patrol, the Wolf Patrol, and the Wolverine Patrol. Some of our favorite activities are swimming in the James River, playing a form of Man-Hunt on an island, King of the Raft, and Capture the Flag in the woods at night.

The last several years for summer camp we have gone to Camp Powhatan, one of the largest Scout owned reservations in the world. Last year for the first time, they had the Ironman hike. Our troop had eight of the twelve people that went. Most kids get two or three merit badges at summer camp during the week. There are many fun things to do like camping, hiking, swimming, canoeing, archery, and shotgun shooting.

In the summer of 1998 we had a group of older scouts and two leaders who went to Charles Sommer's Wilderness Canoe Base. They spent 7 days/nights canoeing the lakes and covered 74 miles. They packed everything in that they needed for their stay. They also had to portage across land in a number of places. They had a really good time and came back with some great stories.
