Someone sent me e-mail and I haven't received it yet.
Sometimes you're expecting e-mail that you don't receive. Let's check out these options.

  1. First, assuming you've checked your e-mail with your e-mail program (Internet Mail, Outlook Express), you can go to http://www.lynchburg.net/email and logon to see if you actually -do- have mail waiting for you.
  2. If you do, is any of it pretty big, ranging from 12000 bytes or more? It may have a large attachment that is causing it to take a long time to download into your e-mail program.
  3. Consider downloading the large attachment to your computer by right-clicking on it with your right mouse button and clicking on "Save Target As..." to the folder you want to save it to.
  4. If none of this is helping, are you sure that the person sending you mail is using the right address for you? You can verify that you're receiving your e-mail by sending yourself a test message to your own e-mail address and then retrieving it.
  5. For example, if your e-mail address is johndoe@lynchburg.net, go to http://www.lynchburg.net/email and send yourself a message with the word 'test' in both the subject line and the body of the message. Then, check your mail a minute later. If you got the message, your mail is fine, and the other person is sending your mail to the wrong address.
  6. If you didn't receive your e-mail, then did you put any capital letters or spaces in your e-mail address (a no-no)?
  7. If worse comes to worse, you can call us at 237-2657 between 9-6 and we'll be happy to help you.
