- The first thing to do is to make sure you're using your e-mail program. We offer both Outlook Express and Internet Mail for your e-mail use, and your names will appear in the upper left hand corner of your window if you have either one open.
- Next, let's make sure we've identified the correct outbound mail server (mail.lynchburg.net). In Outlook Express, click on Tools > Accounts > Mail tab.
- Next, double-click on your mail account under the word 'Account' and then go to the Servers tab in the new window.
- In there, your POP3 and SMTP mail servers should both say mail.lynchburg.net (no capital letters).
- If you are ok, click OK at the bottom, and let's check something else.
- Click on Tools > Options > Send tab.
- Next, make sure the Send Mail Immediately box is checked. If it's not, when you go to send your mail, Outlook Express will only send your messages to the Outbox for delivery the next time to click on the Send and Receive button above.
- If that's OK, click OK.
- Next to check is that you're connected to the Internet when you try to send your e-mail. To ensure you -are- connected to the Internet, follow these tips.
- In Windows 95/98, there will either be a little flashing Dial-Up icon in the right side of your Taskbar (the bar that generally runs along the bottom of your screen) or a mini-box in your Taskbar that says Lynchburg.net when you click on it.
- If you don't see this, you may not be connected, and will need to establish a dial-up connection to the Internet first before you can send or receive your e-mail.
