- First, you can check your e-mail account off our web page at http://www.lynchburg.net/email. Just go there with Internet Explorer or Netscape and login with your username (e.g., jdoe for example) and password and it will let you see if you have any messages waiting.
- If there are any extremely large attachments (attached pictures or programs) on your waiting messages, this will cause your e-mail program to either time-out or take a -long- time to download your messages to your computer. To find out if there are any large attachments on your e-mail, go to http://www.lynchburg.net/email, log in, and messages that have attachments will be anywhere from a dozen thousand to several hundred thousand bytes in size. You can view them online and choose to either A) wait a while to download them, B) right-click on them and "Save Target As..." to your hard drive, or C) delete them from there.
- Next, check your Inbox in Outlook Express or Internet Mail. If you have several dozen or more messages still in there, you might consider moving all those messages to a temporary folder until you can permanently dispose of them.
- To move messages from one folder to another, highlight the ones you want to move, right-click on them with your right mouse button, and select "Move".
- In the new window, click on the folder you wish to move your message to. Click OK.
- If you're receiving errors downloading e-mail, it may also be because one of the messages in your Inbox is corrupt and you should delete it.
- To determine if this is the problem, simply move your current Inbox messages by highlighting them and Right-click > Move... to another folder and then re-start your mail program.
- Once it comes up, re-check your e-mail after you connect to the Internet. You should -not- receive that problem anymore.
- However, if you do, it may be time to re-install your e-mail program, whether it's Internet Mail or Outlook Express.
- Consider giving us a call at 237-2657 so that we can help you out.
