Setting up your computer to use e-mail (Outlook Express)
When you need to set up your e-mail account for the first time or for additional e-mail accounts.

  1. Setting Up Your Account
  2. Click on Start > Programs > Internet Explorer > Outlook Express.
  3. A new window, Setting up Internet Mail, will appear. Check "Create a new Internet mail account" and click Next.
  4. In the next window, put your name in there, i.e., John Doe. Click Next.
  5. In the next window, put your email address in there, i.e., jdoe@lynchburg.net. Use -all- lowercase letters. Click Next.
  6. In the next window, toggle "My incoming mail server is a POP3 server." Below, the incoming (POP3) mail server is mail.lynchburg.net. Also, the outgoing mail server is mail.lynchburg.net. Click Next.
  7. In the next window, Internet Mail Logon, put a bullet next to "Log on using" and place your POP account name, i.e., jdoe, -not- jdoe@lynchburg.net, and your password in there. Click Next.
  8. In the next window, Friendly Name, this is where you can name your e-mail account anything you like. Type anything in there and then click Next.
  9. In the next window, "Choose Connection Type," select "Connect using my phone line" and then click Next.
  10. In the next window, select Use an Existing Dial-Up Connection and then click on lynchburg.net below. Click Finish.
  11. That's it. You can now go send and receive your e-mail.

  1. To Add Another Account
  2. Click on Start > Programs > Internet Explorer > Outlook Express. Tools-Accounts
  3. In the new window, click on Tools > Accounts.
  4. In the new window, click on the Mail tab.
  5. To the right, click Add...
  6. In the next window, put your name in there, i.e., John Doe. Click Next.
  7. In the next window, put your email address in there, i.e., jdoe@lynchburg.net. Use -all- lowercase letters. Click Next.
  8. In the next window, toggle "My incoming mail server is a POP3 server." Below, the incoming (POP3) mail server is mail.lynchburg.net. Also, the outgoing mail server is mail.lynchburg.net. Click Next.
  9. In the next window, Internet Mail Logon, put a bullet next to "Log on using" and place your POP account name, i.e., jdoe, -not- jdoe@lynchburg.net, and your password in there. Click Next.
  10. In the next window, Friendly Name, this is where you can name your e-mail account anything you like. Type anything in there and then click Next.
  11. In the next window, "Choose Connection Type," select "Connect using my phone line" and then click Next.
  12. In the next window, select Use an Existing Dial-Up Connection and then click on lynchburg.net below. Click Finish.
  13. That's it. You can now go Send and Receive your e-mail.
