How
It Works:
A Lynchburg.net satellite dish
is installed at
your home or business so it faces the southwestern sky. A
cable is run from the dish to an internal satellite receiver that is easily installed
in your computer’s available PCI slot. A USB adapter is
also available. The system works by giving you a 400K high-speed connection
when you are downloading files from the Internet, which is basically every
time you look at a Web page, check your email, or download a file. Your
computer is also connected via a normal modem to your telephone line and
the Internet. This line is used for sending “requests” to the
Internet over the dial-up connection. Because the information in these
requests are small (like when you type in a URL and hit enter) and your
satellite downloads are so quick, you can surf the Internet at super fast
speeds.
