FALL SCHEDULE
July 21 9:00 AM - 13th Annual "Boo Daddy" 7s Rugby Harlotfest
(Signal Hill Park, Manassas, VA)
Blackwater had a pretty good showing at the Boo Daddy 7's this year. We took four participants and everyone scored at least one try! Highlights would be Damien Murtagh playing on the 2nd place team and Randy Tucker scoring three of his tries in one game. At the end of the day, everyone had a great time! If this is any indication of the season to come we should have one of our best yet!!!

AND - NFL Pass/Kick/Punt Clinic (City Stadium)
On the last Saturday of September, Newport News came into town with high hopes of their first victory of the VRU's fall season, but it was not to be. Blackwater's back line put together some lovely runs and some outstanding passes which resulted in several tries. The forwards were not to be out done and pushed over at least one try also. Not to mention a defensive stand on the 5 meter line that lasted mulitple phases and several penalty's where News could not break Blackwater's defense. Final score Blackwater 30 Newport News 28.
October 6th - Charlottesville (Away)
With hopes of continuing the winning way, Blackwater traveled to Charlottesville to take on one of the division’s top clubs in Virginia. But, it just wasn’t Blackwater’s day. Lack of experience in several key positions prevented them from keeping anything going on the offensive side of the ball. However, the defensive side was another story. They continued to fight and hit until the final whistle, never backing down to the larger side of Virginia. This was another stepping stone as Blackwater grows together as a club. Final Score: Virginia 63 - Blackwater 0
October 13th - Virginia Beach (Away)
With quiet confidence, Blackwater made an early start to make the 4 hour trip to Va Beach. Alas, hopes were set to be dashed yet again, even after numbers were boosted by some ODU guys who came to help us out. The forwards had the ball under control in the scrum and never looked like being pushed over, yet getting the ball out to the inexperienced back line proved critical. A few errors and lucky bounces gave Beach all the opportunity they needed to use their back line overloads and rack up the points. Some very questionable and unexplainable refereeing calls did not make the day any easier, but the better team ended up winning on the day. Big thanks to all the players who came out. Final Score: Va Beach 54 - Blackwater 0
October 20th - Blacksburg (Home)
A depleted Blackwater side faced off against Blacksburg after a rough stint on the road. Blackwater played hard but once again fell to a side due to their inexperience and their opponent's superior kicking game, which scored them an early 12 points. Blackwater did have a few highlights with 2 trys by one of our newer players, Clint, and some outstanding defensive stands on the try line. They fought hard to the final whistle, but Blacksburg emerged on the winning side. Final Score: Blacksburg 38 - Blackwater 10
October 27th - Roanoke (Home)
With the rains from the previous week dissipated, the sun broke through and shone on the Blackwater pitch at CVCC for their home game against Roanoke. Both teams brought strong numbers, which were badly needed as heavy injuries were sustained on both sides. The game started for Blackwater as it had against Blacksburg with a good back line move which went in for a try. From there, a hard hitting, high scoring affair ensued with both sides exchanging scores before Roanoke racked up 3 consecutive tries; the turning point of the match. Blackwater heads dropped slightly before half time but they reemerged ready to take on their opponent in what became a very entertaining Rugby match. The second half saw more scores by Blackwater than Roanoke, but it was too little too late as Blackwater once again lost on home soil. A great game to watch on the sidelines though. The end picture of the two teams on the sidelines told the story - a tired, bruised, exhausted Roanoke team on one side, with a still upbeat Blackwater team on the other. Final Score: Roanoke 53 - Blackwater 31
