Netscape Web Filter Configuration
This is for our Family Access Plan users who choose to take advantage of our Web Filtering option, although Web Filtering can also be ordered seperately with any other plan.

  1. Load Netscape.
  2. Click on Edit, then select Preferences.
  3. You will see an item on the left labeled Advanced. Double-click on this so that it is expanded, showing the options Cache, Proxies, and SmartUpdate underneath.
  4. Click on Proxies. Change the option button so that instead of being on Direct Connection to the Internet, it says Manual Proxy Configuration. Click on View.
  5. In the field labeled HTTP, type in the servername proxy.Lynchburg.net under Address of Proxy Server to Use. Under Port, type 80.
  6. Click OK to bring you back to the Preferences screen. Click OK here as well to go back to Netscape.
  7. Now, when you try to get on the Web, you will first be presented with a username and password prompt for I-Gear, our proxy software.
  8. Enter your username and password for the proxy (usually the same as your dial-up username and password) and you will then suft the web as usual.
  9. Our Web Filtering Service is now active for your account.
