Special thanks to Pat Day (MVFD) for setting up a night of excitement. Special highlights included Awards going to Kristin Crawford, Shannon Willis, and Jason Ferguson for running the most calls (over 200). Other top 10 members running the most calls for the year 2000 were, Brian Tilton, Jason Johannes, Bob Hopkins, Rhonda Ferguson, RW Woody, Lisa Aiken, Shannon Daniel, Wanda Lombardo, Brandon Welch, and Gary Roakes. Tom Stafford was recognized for 20 years of service, Candy Martin for 15 years of service. Sheriff Jimmy Ayers installs the 2001 officers and is also awarded a plaque for equiping the Deputies with EMS equipment to include several AED's, one of which was responsible for saving Captain Jason Ferguson's father after he collapse from a heart attach this past year. Jason Ferguson found him unresponsive and started CPR. Jason used an AED that was stocked in his patrol car at home to shock his fathers heart to beat again. MVRS gained 9 new members to join the squad. The Corporation officers were also installed: CT Carter, President; Lee Day, Vice President; Nancy Campbell, Treasurer; Pat Day, Secretary. A Dance concluded the evening with music by the band Savanna Jack. |

MVRS Outgrowing Building. |
|
The Monelison Volunteer Rescue Squad is looking to build a new building to better fit the squad. The present building (crewhall) has been around since the squad was established in 1964. The squad has outgrown the building and it is time to look to build a bigger building. It is being discussed to whether of not MVRS stays at the same location and builds next to present building or relocates somewhere else. All options are being looked at. The current building is to small for the growing crew and has deteriorated over the years. The current building houses 4 Rescue Apparatus' and a pair of rescue boats. There is a Day room with a Kitchenette, A small Bunk room for male and female crew members, two half baths, and a small meeting and computer room, All EMS supplies are stored where ever space provides. The building is also located in a high traffic area with the school being below the squad, which makes it difficult to get to the Highway from the building. It is no secret that a new building is need, but it takes time and money. Money is the key word, because MVRS relies on donations provided by the community to purchase the equipment needed for EMS. MVRS appreciates all donations made. Thank you for your support. |

Amherst Department of Public Safety has made the connection. Basic 911 is now operational in Amherst County as the first call was made on Tuesday July the 20th, 2000. Enhanced 911 will go online later in the year, awaiting a minimum percentage of address mailings to be returned by the public. The EOC has all the 911 equipment installed and has been using it since last year. The EOC has come a long way in the last few years. Recently the EOC went online with a new Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) software and is also equipped with a state of the art GPS Mapping System of AmCo. |
