Background: Students should be familiar with the terms – atomic radius, ionization energy, and electronegativity. Students should, also, have experience navigating the WWW (use of the back and forward buttons, using the "go" menu, etc.).

Time: My students worked in our internet lab, one student per computer, and did not finish the entire lesson in one 50 minute period. In fact two full periods could be used to complete the entire lesson.

Tips:

• Print the text of the lesson (in grayscale) and make copies for each student.
• Many of my students used a paper periodic table to refer to.
• Have students write out their answers to the questions.
• If you can’t work one student per computer have the students discuss each question in a small group before moving to the next.
