So What?

It may be helpful to print a copy of this page to refer to during the lesson. The effectiveness of this lesson will depend on the success of your searches and (like all lesson plans) the time you put into planning.

1. Think about the lesson plans that you have already planned for the next week or two.

• Are you planning to use any support media (video, maps, charts, graphs, reference materials).
• What the Web does best is combine various media, and allow quick access to that information.
• Will your students benefit from accessing more sources in the same amount of time as traditional media.

2. Consider the specific information that you plan to teach, and the resources that you plan to use.

• Conduct a search for sites that relate to the above.
• Bookmark any site that has promise, so you don't risk forgetting it.
• Write down any ideas that you have while surfing for sites.

3. Did you find enough to use for an entire class period or only a few sites that could be used to support teaching points?

• There are sites that are designed as self-contained lessons to be used in one or more class periods.
• Some sites provide information and resources that you can link together using a paper lesson (worksheet) that directs students to sites for information.
• Many sites work well as support material for a lecture.

4. Develop a plan to use the sites that you have found

• Schedule the Internet lab if appropriate. Visit the lab and try-out the lesson before students.
• Use the large screen monitor and have the sites bookmarked for quick access.
• Set-up your class computer as a learning center for students to use while others are doing individual work.
• Suggest students who have Internet access at home visit the sites you have found. Give them the URL.
