  6. A Java applet is a small program that can run on a web page. To get files from the Internet you can download them using a protocol known as file transfer protocol (ftp). Servers that contain files that can be downloaded are called ftp servers.

  8. An animated gif is a picture that moves or is animated in some way.

  10. Search engines are Internet database programs that allow you to do keyword searches to find sites listed in that database. Alta Vista is one such database.

Some local area networks have an internet server that will link them to the Web and can then store HTML documents and make them accessible to the Web.
