William Carroll House French Second Empire built 1878 architect
R.C. Burkholder. John W. Carroll had this house built for his son, William. The convex
and concave mansard roofs are much more dramatic that those on the elder Carroll’s
house (1102 Harrison). Many of the original interior details, including the staircase,
remain. |

This Colonial Revival was built in 1906 as high class rental property

Roane-Rodes House Federal built 1816. The most notable feature
is the front entrance, considered one of the most elegant in the city and by the far
the most elaborate of its period. Although brick underneath, it is believed that the
stucco was planned to be the original finish due to the quality and arrangement of
the bricks. Maj. Gen. Robert Emmett Rodes, C.S.A. grew up here. |
