Charles Church, City Manager

City Hall

Dear Chuck,

I am writing to you to express our association’s support of Garland Hill’s proposal for improvements to their historic district neighborhood. We agree that Lynchburg’s Historic Districts play a very important part in bringing people, and their dollars, to Lynchburg. Both permanent residents and tourists are drawn to Lynchburg by the opportunity to view and possibly own a beautiful house. Personally, I can tell you that it was the historic districts that caused me to choose Lynchburg as my hometown.

There are many cities across the country that have realized the importance of their older residential area. Cities like Richmond, with Church Hill, New Orleans, Savannah, and Charleston with their historic residential districts have all reaped financial benefits from the people that these areas draw.

It’s a grand plan that Garland Hill has proposed, but each element has been well thought out. Once executed each would go a long way toward bringing our historic districts back to the glory they once had. A glory that will assuredly bring an increase in investment in the affected neighborhoods and thus an increase in revenue to the city and city’s businesses.

I request that you carefully consider their request and give it your support.

Very truly yours
