J.'s Corner:

Hey fellow mountain bikers,
Happy New Year! I have been sitting back doing nothing since finishing the long election campaign, so I thought I should put out an email to be sure you knew who I was and all that. I have a couple of messages that I would like to put out there:

1. First, its time to pay your dues. But I'm not talking about CVMA dues, I'm talking IMBA. That's right, any of you out there who are not members of the International Mountain Bike Association, you should be! I would actually rather you pay your dues to them first. They are the organization that is really keeping our trails open in this country. Plus, for minimal money you can get a great pair of socks, and build a collection over the years. If you are not a member, please check out IMBA and join today.
2. After you do that, try to earmark a few bucks to us next. Everyone always wants to know what the dues go to. The most important is insurance for things like club rides (including all those night rides) and events. But other things like flyers for Trails day, the big tent, stuff like that. This is also a minimal fee, so go ahead and take care of it now!
3. I have heard a few comments about the web site needing updated. Don has been working on getting things updated (though my email has changed... it is now J. Salmon). It may not be all flashy, but the information is there. If someone thinks it should have more dancing baloney, step on up. I bet Don would be happy for some help. (I personally think its just fine). Oh, and here it is: CVMA Web site
4. This list serve is obviously our most powerful tool. If anyone new wants to subscribe, send them to the website to get set up.
5. Our major projects for the year are National Trails day, and (if all goes as last year) the race at PVP. We will keep you up to date and hit folks up for assistance as the year goes on.
6. Maintenance of the trails will be ongoing. There are a few trees down out at PVP (on Bottom Out- 2, Tombstone, Squeeze) The one on Squeeze is ridable, but doesn't flow well. There is one down on Tomcat that I sorta like. The others are waist high and not ridable. Its tough to get out there in this weather, but they will go eventually. If you see something new that needs maintenance, give a hollar on the list serve.
7. If you have questions/concerns, drop me a line at the above address or over the list serve.
8. Lastly, KEEP RIDING! The weather has been patchy, but PVP is still in much better shape than it was on race day. And Candler's is almost always fun, regardless of the weather. IF you just can't take the cold, get in on one of the trainer rides at the Y (put on by out friends at the seven hills tri club) or at one of the shops. What ever it takes to keep on turning those pedals.

Here's to a new year jammed full of great rides!
-J.
