Missions and Activities

Calvary firmly believes in missions. We give approximately 10 - 20% of undesignated funds to the Southern Baptist Convention, the Baptist General Association of Va., and the Lynchburg Baptist Association.

We have members of our church who have traveled to Africa, Europe, and Latin America on mission endeavors. In addition, our young people are encouraged to participate in missions. The youth plan and execute a mission project regularly.

Every Tuesday several deacons go "visiting" to prospective members.

Vacation Bible School is held every summer for 1 week. Classes are available for children from toddlers through sixth grade. Bible stories, activities, music, recreation, and crafts are all a part of this week of Christian education.

Our Baptist Women and Brotherhood take seriously the challenge of instructing each other and our children in why we, as Christians, are called to be mission people. Some of their ongoing projects include: Helping Hand Clothing Center, Klothes-4-Kids, 5th Sunday Food Drive, Christmas Family Mission Project, help with Habitat for Humanity, Oasis Flea Market.

Acteens and GA's (girls grades 1-12), RA's (boys grades 1-12) (click here for the R.A. Pledge), and Mission Friends(children ages 4-5) all meet on Wednesdays from 6:45 - 7:30 P.M. September through April. This time is spent studying about missionaries and the culture they live in and learning to be missionaries themselves.
