INVESTIGATIONS

Lieutenant C. D. Doss heads the investigations section of the Sheriff's Office. Three experienced investigators handle the more complex and serious cases assigned within the department. These officers have advanced training in various disciplines such as forensics, arson, homicide and white collar crime. Two narcotics investigators also work in the investigations division. One investigator handles local, street level narcotics and another is assigned to the regional drug task force. This two tiered approach to narcotics investigation allows the department to address drug activity from street operations up to the regional conspiracy cases. The investigations division also participates in the regional homicide and arson squad. These squads are comprised of investigators from Amherst County, Amherst Town Police, Appomattox County, Bedford County, Campbell County, The City of Lynchburg, and the Virginia State Police. These Regional squads are activated on complex cases which require more manpower than the investigating department's can provide during the first days of a complex investigation. |
