OUR CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE, PLEASE HELP GUIDE AND EDUCATE THEM!

Our School Resource Officers works with the youth at both the high school both county middle schools. Deputy Smith teaches the Class Action program to students at the high school, along with a variety of other educational programs for the youth.

Deputy Smith and Dep. Adams are the advisors to our Law Enforcement Explorer Post #930. The post is co-sponsored by the Sheriff's Office and Boy Scouts of America. The group is made up of male and female students ages 15 to 21. The youth participate in special community events, ride along with field officers, and train with the advisors. The group also takes field trips to various law enforcement sites such as the Regional Police Academy in Lynchburg, the State Police Academy, and various federal sites.

Deputy Adams is the SRO serving Amherst Middle School while Dep. DJ Meehan works with the youth at Monelison Middle School. Deputy Adams and Deputy Meehan provide educational opportunities, counseling services and mentoring for our middle school youth. These deputies also sponsor a middle school public safety career exploration program. This program allows our youth to be exposed to and explore future career opportunities within the public safety field.

Central Virginia Crime Stoppers is a regional non-profit corporation that pays up to $1,000.00 for tips that solve crimes. The program is run by area citizens and not by law enforcement officials. Callers are not asked their names, and the phone lines are not traced nor is caller id used. When you call the tip-line you are given a special code number, and this number is the only identification given to the information provided. If the information is authorized for payment of a reward, the number is advertised on local television and newspapers and you will be asked to call the tip-line again. After verification of the information is made, a payment location would then be arranged and one of the board of directors would meet you with the payment, again nothing would be recorded. This program has assisted in clearing many felonies since it's inception.
