United Methodist

Women

Women who are members or friends of Bethlehem are welcome to attend the UMW gatherings held twice a month on Thursdays.

The afternoon gathering is held on the third Thursday at 1:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall.  Centered on Biblical study, each session includes a time of fellowship, prayer, information and mission projects.

Throughout the year, the women host special luncheons including one during Lent, another celebrating Mother’s Day and an Advent luncheon.

Community mission activities include volunteering at Lake Christian Ministries (LCM), visiting shut-ins and those in the hospital or nursing homes, volunteering in the schools and assisting with the Christmas project for children at LCM.  The women also sponsor special appreciation programs for the Sunday school teachers, the Music Ministry and the Pastor.

Throughout the year, the women work on mission craft projects to benefit children in local emergency rooms, overnight kits for abused women, health kits for overseas missions, nursing home tray favors and others.

Voluntary pledges from the members are used to support the global missions of the UMW.  Fundraisers to benefit the local mission programs of the women include a Silent Auction held each spring, hosting a Ruritan Dinner in the summer and a Potato Bake Luncheon in the fall specifically for the Society of St. Andrew.
